Vegas hotel’s ‘death ray’...aiming at the wrong direction

And here you thought bedbugs were the biggest source of anxiety for hotel guests.
Yes, guests at Vdara hotel in Las Vegas now have something else to worry about: being burned alive by the glare of the building's "death ray."
What the heck's a "death ray," you ask? Well, first off, it's not as deadly as it sounds, since no one has actually died from it -- at least not yet. Butaccording to the U.K. Daily Mail, the powerful beams of Nevada sunlight reflecting off the glass hotel onto sections of the hotel's swimming pool area have burned some guests and have melted plastic bags.
The building's concave design creates a sort of magnifying-glass effect. The hotel's designers reportedly anticipated that ill-situated humans might experience some discomfort courtesy of the building's blinding glare, so they placed a film over the glass panes of its many windows. Obviously that didn't quite do the trick. So for now the hotel is placing larger umbrellas in the pool area while designers try to come up with another remedy.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the hotel's employees coined the term "death ray" to describe the intense reflection. Reports of the glare have also enhanced the hotel's public profile, though almost certainly not in the way its owners would like; Yahoo! searches for Vdara have spiked by nearly 19,000 percent in the past 24 hours.
It turns out that Vdara isn't the only building out there creating intense heat and glare for hapless passersby. Gordon Absher, a spokesman for MGM Resorts International, which owns Vdara, told the Review-Journal that in Las Vegas, the AdventureDome at Circus Circus and the Mandalay Bay produce "hot spots" that some guests have actually sought out, believing the spots will aid tanning regimens. In Los Angeles, the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall produced such a harsh glare that it heated nearby homes, forcing residents to blast their air conditioners high above their customary capacities in order for the residents to keep cool.

Bill Pintas, a Chicago attorney, told the Daily Mail that he experienced the harsh glare of the death ray firsthand during a recent Vdara stay. Pintas reported that as he lounged out by the pool, his head suffered a sensation he likened to a "chemical burn." He added, "Within 30 seconds, the back of my legs were burning."

In another interview, Pintas said: "I was effectively being cooked." Thankfully, he returned home alive. Still, his skin was burned and his hair was singed -- disproving the old saying that whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

My precious.....
Apple to Gizmodo: Yep, that's our phone, and we want it back
Well, I guess this settles it as far as the authenticity of Gizmodo's iPhone 4G scoop Monday. The definitive piece of evidence: a letter from Apple's top lawyer, formally requesting the safe return of the wayward next-generation iPhone — the one left on a Redwood City barstool last month by a young (and surely red-faced) Apple software engineer.
Gizmodo posted the letter late Monday, and the missive — while firm in tone, and signed by Apple General Counsel and Senior VP Bruce Sewell — stops short of making any legal threats, at least for the time being:
It has come to our attention that GIZMODO is currently in possession of a device that belongs to Apple. This letter constitutes a formal request that you return the device to Apple. Please let me know where to pick up the unit.
Gizmodo Editorial Director Brian Lam replied cheekily that the lost, radically redesigned iPhone was "burning a hole in our pockets" and that he was "happy to see it returned to its rightful owner" now that "we definitely know it's not some knockoff."
The news came just hours after the bloggers Gizmodo described how a 27-year-old software engineer at Apple (who is named and pictured in the post, by the way) managed to leave the precious iPhone 4G prototype — disguised to look like an iPhone 3GS — on a barstool at the Gourmet Haus Straut, a "nice German beer garden" in Redwood City, about 20 miles northwest of Apple HQ in Cupertino. (Engadget had blogged over the weekend that the phone was lost in a San Jose watering hole, leading to some initial confusion.)
Having downed a few brews, the hapless Apple engineer eventually rolled out of the bar, according to Gizmodo, absentmindedly leaving behind the next-generation iPhone (which he'd been field testing, the post said). Hey, it happens. (If I had a nickel for every time I left a credit card at a bar ... ) Another man in the bar ended up taking the phone home, peeled off the protective jacket the next day, and realized he had a windfall on his hands.
And as we all now know, "weeks later, Gizmodo got it," says Gawker Media Inc.'s Gizmodo — leaving out a key detail that Nick Denton, founder of Gawker Media, filled in later for the Associated Press: The company paid $5,000 for it.
What followed, I'm sure, was a scene similar to the wonderful sequence in the BBC version of "State of Play": The editors huddled with their lawyers, the crucial evidence (a suitcase of documents in "State of Play," an iPhone in the case of Gizmodo) on a table before them, trying to suss out whether they should write a story or call the police.
So, is Gizmodo in trouble? Hard to say, but the L.A. Times tech blog checked in with UC Irvine law professor Henry Weinstein, who says Gizmodo is probably in the clear: "Journalists generally do not get prosecuted for being in receipt of stolen documents, as opposed to the person who received the documents and turned them over." (It's worth noting that Gizmodo claims the iPhone in question wasn't stolen — merely "lost.")
Now, Apple may find some other way to punish the Gizmodo guys (who are fast becoming the Merry Pranksters of tech bloggerdom) — perhaps a different legal route, or it may freeze out Gizmodo in terms of access to Apple reps and review samples. Then again, Apple reportedly had already snubbed Gizmodo by refusing to give it an advance review iPad, so ... sounds like Gizmodo's iPhone scoop may have been sweet revenge for the spurned blog.
And c'mon: Here's Apple, perhaps the most infamously paranoid company of all time, complete with triple-secret security zones, blackout curtains hung over conference room windows, flashing red warning lights, prototype devices chained to tables, and all that — only to suffer the (arguably) worst security breach in its history because some poor guy left the next iPhone on a barstool. The irony is just too rich.
Of course, this is all inside baseball (albeit a fascinating game of inside baseball); in the end, we're left with what appears to be an enticing new iPhone, with a revamped design (flat and shiny on the front and back, trim aluminum sides, thinner but a bit heavier), dual cameras (with a front-facing lens for video chat), a bigger battery, and what appears to be a higher-resolution display. The design may change between now and the final shipping date — after all, the phone Gizmodo snagged may only have been a prototype — but still, there's little question that the iPhone as we know it is poised for some big changes.

Google's ultimate goal - World Domination....
It appears that Google is not satisfy with only the internet world, now the clutches of Google has extended to our home t.v!!!
"Your next TV could be a Google TV, made by Sony and powered by Intel chips. The three companies have teamed up to build what will be called the Google TV, essentially a big-screen living-room computer.
The TV project, according to the New York Times, is still under wraps, but that hasn’t stopped the details from leaking. The GTV will be based on the Android OS, and come in the form of both a set-top box and actual TV-sets. There will be regular television, of course, but also Hulu, YouTube and other web-video sources, as well as games and apps for social networking.
It makes so much sense we wonder why we didn’t see it coming. TV is one of the few advertising markets Google isn’t yet in, the company has an OS ready to go, and Google’s simple UI designs are perfect for couch-surfing. The Google TV will even have the Chrome browser built-in.
The reason for a partnership with Intel is pretty obvious — we expect the TV will use some form of Atom chip. But why would Sony get involved? According to the NYT, Sony sees it as a competitive advantage in a very difficult market. It’s right. Who wouldn’t buy a TV with Google inside?
The Google TV appears to be close. Developer tools are expected in the next two months, and Logitech has reportedly been approached to make peripherals such as speakers and a QWERTY-equipped remote. This could be huge, and a further blow to the PC industry. If you have the internet in your television, and a tablet appliance like the iPad to carry around, who needs a desktop or even a laptop computer?"

Google will soon take over the Internet....
Google takes on Facebook and Twitter with network site
Google's Vic Gundotra shows off Buzz on a mobile phone
Google has taken the wraps off its latest social network known as Buzz.
The service - integrated directly with its e-mail service Gmail - allows users to post status updates, share content and read and comment on friends posts.
The site pitches Google directly against rival networks such as Facebook, which has amassed nearly 400 million users since its launch in 2004.
Buzz will try to capitalise on the number of regular Gmail users, which is currently around 170 million people.
BBC News technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones said that the launch appeared to be a "major land grab by Google for the social networking space".
"They've launched Buzz with plenty of interesting new features, particularly for mobile users, but the real question is whether there's enough to entice social networkers away from sites like Facebook and Twitter," he said.
Rival Yahoo already offers a service that allows people to see updates from sites such as Twitter and Flickr from inside their Yahoo Mail page.
Local chatter
The new features are built directly into Google's free e-mail service Gmail.
Users can post private or public status updates - known as a buzz - and share content from other sites such as Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and Picassa.
The messages - highlighted with a Buzz symbol - are incorporated directly into a person's Gmail inbox. Private updates are automatically added to a user's profile page, whilst public updates will also be available to search engines.
The site also incorporates elements of Twitter, such as the ability to "follow" people that share updates, and features that appear in Facebook such as the ability to "like" content.
Buzz will also recommend content from people that it thinks you may like to see and incorporate it directly into a users content stream.
Google Buzz product manager Todd Jackson described it as "an entirely new world in Gmail" during a press event at Google headquarters in Mountain View.
The firm has also integrated it with its mapping service and mobile platforms. For example, it has launched a mobile application for phones running its operating system Android.
Status updates sent from phones will record the location of the sender and add it to the message.
Other users can then search public messages from their phone.
"You can see what people in your neighbourhood are saying," said Google's Vic Gundotra.
Public updates will also be added to Google Places, a directory of businesses that include reviews of restaurants and theatres, for example.
The firm has also built the technology into the mobile versions of its maps.
It is not the first time Google has tried to launch a social network.
In 2004, it released Orkut. However, while it has become big in countries such as Brazil and India, it has been overshadowed by sites such as Facebook elsewhere.
The firm also recently launched Google Wave, a tool that mixes e-mail, with instant messaging and the ability for several people to collaborate on documents in real time.
Facebook is currently the most popular social network worldwide.
Last week it rolled out a new site layout and design for parts of the service to make it easier to search messages and chat.

Slim PS3 is out...that means...
With the release of the slim version of PS3, i sense that a PS4 prototype is under development/has been completed. They would wait for most of the people to get their hands on this version and bang, here comes PS4, just like what they did after they have launched the slim version of PS2)..This is very same tactic employed countless times by Apple..though Sony is much more considerate compared to the big fat Apple.
Using the current timeline , I guess we would be able to see PS4 in another 2-3 years and IPhone 3GX (3G for 3G and X stands for tenth generation ) in 1-2 years time. Though I know very well this bloody business tactic, yet it is still tempting to get one ....newer, lighter, smaller, quieter, and CHEAPER than the first bulky 60GB version....aargh....
Maybe I should force myself to stick to my PC and watch the videos on YouTube for entertainment and satisfaction (they have a lot of complete game speedruns there..just watch those as if i am playing them myself)... Anyone wants to buy my old PS3 and IPhone??? Need money for the new PS3....
I just love and hate technologies...

Are we near to the origin of the universe???
What is the Hubble Ultra Deep Field??
Adapted from Wikipedia:
The HUDF is the deepest image of the universe ever taken in visible light and it will be used to search for galaxies that existed between 400 and 800 million years after the Big Bang (Redshifts between 7 and 12).[2] The star near the center of the field is USNO-A2.0 0600-01400432 with apparent magnitude of 18.95.[citation needed]
The field imaged by the ACS contains over 10,000 objects, the majority of which are galaxies, many at redshifts greater than 3, and some that probably have redshifts between 6 and 7.[1] The NICMOS measurements may have discovered galaxies at redshifts up to 12.[2]
Click Here for a detailed image of the Ultra Deep FieldIn other words, the scientists are close in finding what actually happen before and during the "Big Bang", a theory that states the formation of our universe...(That's what they claimed...not me...)
There are infinite possibilities of what might occur before the Big Bang, such as the M-Theory (Membrane Colision that creates the Big Bang theorem..I am no cosmology here...Google for more information of these terms..Nothing....Big Ball...Pangu (Chinese Myths), Aliens....etc
Maybe some day we'll see God on the other end creating the universe...who knows?

New 1TB external Harddisk...
I got it from here...now officially my favourite shop in Low Yat....

ViewNet Hyperstore: RM424 (Cheapest by far)
For those who wish to get computer equipments at a good price, try ViewNet Hyperstore which is located on the 3rd Floor, Low Yat plaza. Don't be intimidated by the nice renovation and classy, elegant design of the shop, the pricing of the gadgets are some of the lowest in the entire building!
Service is fast and effecient. Not to mention the staffs are polite and friendly, unlike one of the shops I have visited, which is a total crap store with shit customer service and untrustworthy staff...
So remember to visit this store first and compare the price with other stores before you get anything...This is one advice from a friend who has regretted getting his gadgets at another shop before he visisted Viewnet (he later found out that the price at Viewnet is much lower than what he had paid for)...
